RIPIII (Rural Infrastructure Programme Phase III)

German Financial Cooperation started reconstructing rural roads in Cambodia initially as an emergency “food-for-work” reconstruction project under the old TRIP programme. The new “Rural Infrastructure Program” (RIP) has been active for around three years in seven Cambodian provinces promoting a more sustainable approach to managing the rural road network,  under which the Cambodian authorities are in the drivers seat.

Specifically RIP provides financial support to the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) in rehabilitating and upgrading selected strategic rural roads, as well as assisting in developing sustainable maintenance systems for the overall rural road network.

The programme also includes improvements to key district market centres and is dovetailed to the German Technical Cooperation project “Regional Economic Development, RED” conducted by GIZ which is however active only in Kampong Cham and Kampong Chhnang.
